The Origin of the MagMitt

Ten years ago, I "invented" the first MagMitt as a way to keep my oven mitts handy and free up extra drawer space in my tiny Los Angeles kitchen.

As one pair of oven mitts would get tattered and stained, I would pull the magnet out and put it into a new pair.

I didn’t think much of my “invention” until some viewers saw it in a video and asked about it in the comments. It was then that I realized it might be an idea worth sharing.

And in January of 2025, the MagMitt project was born. I obsessed over the materials, factories, shape, size, and even the back side of the logo tag. So… let me tell you why the MagMitt is the perfect oven mitt.

What Makes The MagMitt the Perfect Oven Mitt?

Magnets: Obviously, this is the coolest part about the MagMitt. To keep a sleak design, the magnet is fully hidden in the lining of the mitt, so it will stick to your fridge, oven, stove, dishwasher, or any magnetic surface that you’d like it. The MagPad also has a magnet for storage AND for use. It will stick on the bottom of your cast iron or steel baking trays so that you can use two hands to carry your heavy pan, and your dining room table will always be protected.

Size: Most of the time that I’m using an oven mitt, it’s just for grabbing a lid or a pot handle. There is no need to go elbow deep into some Doc Brown radioactive gloves in order to just hold your cast iron pan in place as you stir. BUUUUUT those tiny little claw mitts don’t protect your wrist from steam or the edge of a toaster oven. That’s why I extended the claw by 1.5 inches and found the perfect length to cover the average hand and wrist.

Single Hand Use: Often when you cook, you may have one dirty hand and one clean hand. With the MagMitt, you can slide your clean hand into the mitt while it is hanging, and then just stick it back onto your fridge when you’re done.

Tapered Thumb: Most people only have 1 thumb and 4 fingers on each hand, so I designed the MagMitt to fit 1 thumb and 4 fingers. It seems obvious, but most other oven mitts out there look like they are designed for hooves.

Hidden Loop: In case your fridge isn’t magnetic or you like hanging your mitts the old fashioned way, each MagMitt has a hidden loop that you can hang it from.

The Tag: Most people won’t notice this detail, but for me… it’s the most special. I want to share the MagMitt with everyone, but I also want to honor the face that this product was only possible because of my channel, which is only possible because of my viewers like YOU! The Price: Of course… this is the most important detail of all.
